Frequently asked questions
Why does Chinese New Year fall on a different Gregorian date each year?
The lunar calendar follows the moon phases. A thirteenth month is inserted in some years, which is why Chinese New Year moves between late January and mid-February.
Does the zodiac change on 1 January or on Chinese New Year?
It changes on Chinese New Year, the first day of the lunar year. Before that date the previous animal still applies, and this tool follows that rule.
Why is the supported range 1900–2100?
The converter uses a published lunar table covering those years. Dates outside this range require astronomical computation, so they are not supported here.
